'Tis the Season

"Here comes Peter Cottontail..."

Our kids had a great time at our "indoor" Egg Hunt on Wednesday evening. Egg hunts are an ancient tradition celebrating new birth and the renewal brought by spring. For kids it's another time to "get stuff."

I fear that as with Christmas, we often focus on the more commercial aspect of the holiday. Our families get together for big dinners where we eat too much and many families give gifts that rival Christmas and birthday presents. Let's make a real effort to keep it real. We are celebrating the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ--the greatest gift of all.

When our kids dig into their Easter baskets, use it as a chance to remind them of this gift. Let the eggs remind them of new life, not just for chicks, but also for themselves when they accept Christ as their savior. Encourage them to share the contents of their baskets along with their ideas of what Easter is about.
